ATLANTA, GA (March 5, 2010) – The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) has announced the 2009-2010 Women and Men’s SIAC All-Conference Basketball Teams and Superlatives.
For the Lady Wildcats of Fort Valley State University (FVSU), senior Takesha Riggs and sophomore Kendra Evans were named to the SIAC All-Conference First and Second Teams, respectively. Riggs was also named SIAC Most Valuable Player and Lady Wildcats Head Coach Lonnie Bartley was named SIAC Coach of the Year.
Riggs finished the 2009-2010 regular season averaging 15.15 points per game and 4.8 rebounds. Riggs led the SIAC in steals with 86 and she finished the regular season with 103 assists and 15 blocked shots. This was Riggs’ second consecutive season being named to the SIAC All-Conference First Team.
Evans earned Second Team SIAC All-Conference status after posting season averages of 11.8 points and 6 rebounds per game. Evans finished with a 50% field goal rate, 19 assists, eight blocked shots, and 28 steals.
Head Coach Lonnie Bartley was tabbed with SIAC Coach of the Year honors after leading the Lady Wildcats to the best regular season record in the history of Lady Wildcats Basketball (26-1). His team also finished the regular season as the number one ranked team in the NCAA Division II South Region and as the sixth ranked team in the nation according to the USA Today/ESPN Top 25 Division II Women’s Basketball Coaches Poll.
