Wildcats Close Season with 1st Round Tournament Loss to Lane
By: FVSU Sports Information
The Wildcats of Fort Valley State University (FVSU) entered the first round of the 77th Annual Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) believing that their shot to win the SIAC crown was as good as any of the other 12 teams vying for the title. In doing so, their first order of business was to defeat a team that had beaten them twice in the regular season, the Dragons of Lane College.
Unfortunately, that did not happen. In a game that the Dragons led from opening tip to the final buzzer, the Wildcats were eliminated from the tournament with a 64-58 loss to the Dragons. The main culprit in the loss was a dismal free throw shooting performance by the Wildcats of just 14 of 28 (50%).
The final game of the season was highlighted by the play of senior Darrell Aiken who finished with 15 points, six rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Jeremy Sledge added 14 points and five rebounds.
The Wildcats close the season with a 9-19 overall record and a 7-18 conference mark.
