Lady Wildcats Softball an Early Hit
By: FVSU Office of Sports Information
If you ask Fort Valley State University (FVSU) Head Softball Coach Jimmie Reed to share his thoughts about this year’s Lady Wildcats team, after a quick smile, he will tell you that he is extremely optimistic about how far this team can go. After a 24-23 (14-10 in the SIAC) finish last season, Reed and his coaching staff knew that the team was missing only a few key components to make this season one of the best for the Lady Wildcats. The chief component was building a stronger pitching staff. That concern was addressed during the recruiting period and the results are beginning to speak for themselves.
The Lady Wildcat Softball Team is off to an 8-5 start this year. In addition to wins over conference foes Clark Atlanta University and Benedict College, the Lady Wildcats also have wins over non-conference opponents Savannah State University, Edward Waters College, and Brewton Parker College. Other non-conference games slated for this season include Rollins College, Columbus State University and Alabama State University. As the season progresses, wins in these non-conference games could bolster the regional ranking opportunities for the Lady Wildcats.
After a split in doubleheader action against the Lady Tigers of Benedict College on February 27th (Win 6-4, Loss 9-8), the Lady Wildcats return to action on March 5th when they participate in the Clark Atlanta University Tournament in Atlanta, Georgia.
