In the first half of last night’s regular season finale for the Wildcats of Fort Valley State University (FVSU), the Wildcats gave the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) number two ranked Tigers of Tuskegee University all they could handle. In fact, after climbing back from a 10-point first half deficit, the Wildcats took a 37-34 lead into the halftime.
In the second half, the Tigers took advantage of a friendly crowd on a combined senior night/breast cancer awareness night to surge ahead of the Wildcats. With 4:59 remaining, the Tigers had pressed their advantage to a 20 point lead. At the final horn, the Tigers had defeated the Wildcats, 82-70.
With the loss, the Wildcats finish the regular season with a 9-18 record (7-17 in conference play). Senior Darrell Aiken led the Wildcats with a double-double. He finished with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Steven Gill had 16 points and seven rebounds while Randy Graham tallied 15 points and seven rebounds. Jeremy Sledge added 11 points and six rebounds.
Currently ranked 11th in the SIAC, the Wildcats await the results of conference games over the weekend to determine their seeding and match up in the SIAC Tournament beginning on March 2nd. While the Wildcats will play on the tournament’s opening day (March 2nd) their opposition and start time will not be known until after the weekend.
