Wildcats Mesmerized by the Magicians
By: FVSU Office of Sports Information
Last night’s 93-78 loss to the Magicians of Lemoyne Owen College was a difficult pill to swallow for the Wildcats of Fort Valley State University. With a 10 point lead with 7:26 remaining in the first half, the Wildcats defied their normally slow start to jump to the early edge. This time, instead of playing from behind, the Wildcats were playing with an advantage. The question would be whether they could maintain the lead. Unfortunately, the answer to that question was no.
By halftime, the Wildcat lead had been eradicated and the Magicians lead 36-35. In the second half, the Magicians widened their lead to as many as 20 points. Despite five lead changes in the first half, the Wildcats were never able to play with a lead in the final 20 minutes. As the Magicians continually raised the level of their play, even the fact that five Wildcat players finished the game in double figure scoring was not enough for FVSU to contain the Magicians. The decided advantage for the Magicians was based on the 50 points that they scored inside the paint along with 17 points that they got off of FVSU turnovers and the 27 points that they got from reserve players.
Darrell Aiken led the FVSU effort with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Jeremy Sledge finished with 15 point. Hard working Steven Gill had 11 points and 12 rebounds. Denario Quinn chipped in 14 points while Randy Graham contributed 11 points.
The loss dropped the FVSU record to 6-11 overall and 4-10 in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play.
