The Wildcats of Fort Valley State University (FVSU) had hopes of breaking their two game skid with a win over the fourth ranked team in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC), the Tigers of Benedict College in Saturday’s afternoon basketball contest. Unfortunately, the Tigers were looking to overcome a loss as well and were seemingly not in the mood for granting the wishes of the visiting Wildcats.
Entering the game ranked ninth in the SIAC, the loss dropped the Wildcat record to 5-8 overall and 3-7 in conference play. Now, with 14 games remaining in the regular season (all conference games) the challenge for the Wildcats is to find a formula to help them win as many games as possible to enhance their seeding for the SIAC Basketball Tournament slated for early March in Atlanta, Georgia.
In Saturday’s game, the Wildcats got 12 points, two rebounds, one assist, and one steal from guard William Hawes. Darrell Aiken finished with 11 points, five rebounds and three assists.
Aubrey Brown had 14 points for Benedict while Kennie Eberhart contributed 12 point and 11 rebounds.
The Wildcats will be back in action on Tuesday, January 19th when they meet the Thorobreds of Kentucky State University in Frankfort, Kentucky. Tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Men’s action will be preceded by the women’s match up between the Lady Wildcats of FVSU and the Thorobrettes of Kentucky State. Both games will be aired live on WFVS-LP 104.3 and on the worldwide web at www.fvsu.edu.
